Interestingly, you can't find it in a dictionary.... So we'll go ahead and define it. From Merriam-Webster Online 2006:
Main Entry: 1rock
Pronunciation: 'räk
Function: verb
Etymology: Middle English rokken, from Old English roccian; akin to Old High German rucken to cause to move
transitive verb (the early pronunciations for "rawk on!!!...")
1 : to move back and forth in or as if in a cradle (hence, born to rock)
2 a : to cause to sway back and forth <a boat rocked by the waves> b (1) : to cause to shake violently (2) : to daze with or as if with a vigorous blow <a hard right rocked the contender> (3) : to astonish or disturb greatly <the scandal rocked the community> (we love this definition best, combining swaying and rocking on the water, shaking violently, being astonishingly disturbed or to disturb...)
3 : to rouse to excitement (as by performing rock music) <rocked the crowd> (that's right!)
intransitive verb
1 : to become moved backward and forward under often violent impact; also : to move gently back and forth (we try to avoid violent impact at all cost, keeping all four wheels on the ground at all times)
2 : to move forward at a steady pace; also : to move forward at a high speed <the train rocked through the countryside> (or at planing speed over the water, or cornering in a golf cart, or the guitar solo...)
3 : to sing, dance to, or play rock music (wherever, whenever, with whomever... in your office, in your car, dancing around your living room...)
4 slang : to be extremely enjoyable, pleasing, or effective <her new car rocks> (how can this be slang?)
synonym
- rock the boat : to do something that disturbs the equilibrium of a situation (now THAT's the mission!)
Main Entry: 3star
Function: adjective
1 : of, relating to, or being a star <received star billing>
2 : of outstanding excellence : PREEMINENT <a star athlete> (enough said!)
Someone once told us, somewhere at some time, one of those crazy statistics that stays in your mind forever. I heard that 80% of Fortune 500 CEO's had once dreamed of being a rock star. Poll any company, school, stay at home mom or dad, or just about anyone from any walk of life and you'll see a glimmer in their eye when they talk about their favorite music, rock star or memory brought back by mentioning a song. While precious few make it to the stage in front of 50,000 people and 20,000 watts of power, being a rock star isn't about that. Being a Rock Star is about a single moment, or a string of moments, that occur every day, in everything we do. Based on the definitions from Merriam and the belief that we are all Rock Stars, here's our definition:
Rock Star
Function: verb, adjective, noun, you decide
1. Enjoyably and effectively disturbing the equilibrium of a situation by causing vigorous literal and/or emotional swaying back and forth, rousing infectious emotional energy, passion and excitement, with every thought and action.
Live like a Rock Star.
